Hi everyone,

as it is probably apparent by the high amount of posts I’ve made, this is my first blog entry. It is actually written in my first blog ever as well, which makes it a good place to write something about me, what I’ll be talking about and everything else that might come to my mind.

I’m 24 years old, living in Slovenia and working as a programmer. From my past experience, a lot of people (especially those living outside of Europe) have no idea where Slovenia is (the most common guess is Africa), so here’s a link to help you out. It’s a beautiful small chicken shaped country with everything one would imagine and possibly even more. Like every other country in this world, we don’t get along with most of our neighbors, though politicians have a lot to do with it as people are generally friendly towards each others.

Anyway, the reason why I’ve started this blog is to share some of my experience (programming and otherwise), write about things that I think about or things that bother me but I can’t express them in real world for whatever reason.

I’d like to give a quick overview of myself, so that you may better understand why I’m (or should I say will be) writing about certain things:

  • I’ve been happily living with my girlfriend for almost 5 years now. We’re very alike but at the same time miles away and I guess that makes us a good couple as we fill each other. We do most of the things together and I couldn’t imagine my life without her. She is currently outside, somewhat annoyed by me saying something to her that I’ve already forgotten, but it was some silly little thing (from my point of view) that she’ll get over in couple of minutes (hours). Hopefully.
  • I make my living as a programmer. My main area of work is geometry and (medical) data compression. It’s a fun and sometimes even exciting job that I usually hate, but I can’t complain about it most of the time.
  • Apart from “work” programming, I’m also helping out with a private Ultima Online shard called Grimmwold. I’ve always been fascinated with game programming and this helps me get away from “dull programming” and do something that I really enjoy doing. I’ve never had enough energy to write my own game (except small useless demos), so joining another game development was probably best thing left to do for me.
  • I enjoy playing board games. I’m usually interested in logic games mostly. Couple of games that I enjoy the most and would really recommend are Ingenious, Hive and Settlers of Catan Card Game. Hive especially is a pure logic game and we usually spend hours playing it (even though usual round only takes about 5-10 minutes).
  • I enjoy playing tennis, hiking and bicycling. Apart from the “stay in shape” thing (which I’m certainly not), these activities help me take away some every day stress and I feel a lot better after doing anything of the above. If only I wasn’t so lazy and do some of them on a regular basis…
  • I’m somewhat shy (though I’ve been worst case scenario couple of years ago) as I’m mostly thinking to myself and not dealing with others (too) much. That is not to say I don’t like hanging out with friends or co-workers, I just usually don’t say much as I’m thinking about what others have said. I also prefer to work most of the time as I hate people that just babble all the time and get nothing done at the end of the day.
  • I think of myself as perfectionist in some areas. Painting or anything on the wall that isn’t put up exactly straight drives me crazy, books have to be ordered by their size from tallest to smallest, most of the things around me have to be perfectly symmetrical and so on. Consequently I sometimes spend plenty of time with fixing things that someone wouldn’t even think about for a second.
  • I talk about myself way too much in my first blog post.
I guess I could go on and on and explain everything about me, but I won’t. If I get some (or any) response, I might write more. If I don’t get any response, I’ll probably write more anyway, hoping to get more response the next time. In any case, thank you for taking the time to read a bunch of stuff about some guy living on the other side of the planet. Hope to see you in my next bost!
What’s bost you ask? It’s a word I came up with today while being bored at work. Blog+post = bost. Who knows, maybe I’ll start a trend.
